The setting that I get from this text is that Napoleon is in a press  conference and is going to talk in front of a crowd. This event that is taking is either when he is elected or giving a speech for giving news about something. Napoleon is the president of the animal farm and he is giving a speech in front of the people. The context clues are when it describes on how he enters and when he was about to speak. This reminded me about how before the president comes in to make a statement there are at least someone introducing him and he will have people behind him while walking to talk to his people. The context clues help me defined the underline word like how he was attended not just by his retinue of dogs which is always right beside of you. Then I got to thinking that assistants follow their boss when walking anywhere with them to give them information and helping their boss out.
