Figurative language in carry your own skis

An example of figurative language used in "Carry Your Own Ski's" by Lian Dolan is imagery.

In Dolan’s essay, she uses imagery to describe how difficult it was to ski in the 1960’s; “My mother and my aunt took up the kind of skiing that entailed wooden skis, tie boots, and rope toes that could yank your arm out of its socket.” With imagery, the author is able to paint a mental picture in the reader’s mind.
