Pleasss, help me

If I am going to spend money on something, I want to be sure that I am getting a good value. I want to be sure it is well made and will last a long time. I ask myself if I really will use it or wear it enough to warrant the expense AND the resources that went into making it. Do I need this thing taking up space in my life and in my mind? Do I mind taking on the upkeep and care and cleaning for this item?

I try to be very cognizant of the fact that I am but ONE person, living on a planet inhabited by BILLIONS… and that there are finite resources to go around. I really dislike wasting things.

This all culminates in me taking my time to decide IF I am actually going to buy an item. And then putting quite a lot of research into buying one that will last a long time based on reviews and other inquiries.

I like to buy used furniture with good bones… things that can be painted or have the cushions switched out and last a lifetime. I try to buy new clothing items that are timeless and are flexible enough to go with things I already own. I avoid fads. I’m not an earlier adopter.

It doesn’t keep me from wandering around stores and shops and admiring things I like. I have just grown mature enough not to rely on the instant gratification of buying things to make me happy.

And perhaps this makes me weird. Perhaps it makes you weird too. But, I don’t think there is anything too detrimental about it, and there are a lot of positives to having this mindset.
