In Act I of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Caesar has
returned to Rome from Spain. The senators ſear
that the people will make him a king. Caesar's
growing popularity worries Brutus. Brutus is
told by Cassius that Caesar is only a great leader
because Romans are so weak. A story about
how Caesar nearly drowned and was saved by
Cassius is told. A plan is developed to take down
Caesar as the night is filled with strange omens.
On the ides of March, Caesar is killed by the
conspirators. A warning was given to Caesar by
his wife, but Caesar did not listen. A speech was
given at Caesar's funeral by Mark Antony. He
tries to convince the people that Caesar was a
good and noble man.
