Read the Following passage and answer the question below:
On March 15th, in 44 B. C, Julius Caesar was assassinated on the steps of the Capital
in Rome. A number of rich and famous Roman senators had plotted his downfall.
Some were jealous of his outstanding success as a general. Other feared that, one
day, he might accept the crown of Rome which had been offered him. So, his friend,
Brutus, Cassius, Casca and other stabbed him to death on the steps where stood the
statue of Pompey, thrusting their daggers again into the great leader, doing what his
enemies in may wars had failed to do. Then they dipped their daggers into his and
held them up for all to see.
But their success was short lived, for Marc Antony, Caesar's true friend and admirer
roused the Roman mob to seek revenge. They drove the murderers from Rome.
Later, in battle they were killed. Antony and Caesar's adopted son Augustus became
rulers of the Roman Empire.
