I don't know what Verb Phrases and Verbals are... But because your stuff is due tomorrow, I'll try to help you out.

First, try to spot the differences between VERB PHRASES and VERBALS. I added an attachment below: that was the example the homework gave.

Okay, are you following along? Or do you already know what Verb Phrases and Verbals are? If so, tell me, please.

Anyway, so what we can infer,

"Eating" Is Verbal, and "Is eating" Is a Verb Phrase.

Now, to the question, in the first image you provide they say:

1. a. Replacing the food was expensive for the shopkeeper.

and

b.  The shopkeepers were replacing the food in their stores.

'A' sounds an awful lot like a Verbal, and 'B' sounded an awful lot like a Verb Phrase.

If this sounds wrong please don't answer this in mindlessly, okay?
