This unit's theme was "rites of passage." Rites of Passages are something we go through in our lives that marks the transition of one part of our life to another. There are many rites of passage that we experience in life such as birth, starting school, the realization that childhood has passed, graduating school, leaving home, having children, marrying and death. Choose one of the passages from the list below and explain how the character/author experienced a rite of passage within the story. Tell which rite of passage you believe the character/author experienced and support your belief with information from the passage. Remember to use the RACE method to organize your paragraph which should be 5-7 sentences minimum. For your short answer prompt, the passages you may use are "The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant," excerpt from "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," "The Scarlet Ibis," or "My Brother's Keeper."
