There she stands as if alive. what does the duke seem to reveal here? 1. he had his wife killed because she did not show him the deference he believed he deserved. 2. his grief over his wife's death was so intense that he had a life-size painting done of her. 3. his wife was quite beautiful when she smiled, and he was jealous of anyone she directed that smile to. 4. his wife loved everyone, and he wanted that to be evident in the portrait he had painted of her.
