The official day to celebrate Halloween (is) October 31, but many people just have a party the weekend before or after the day.

The best part of Halloween is being able (to dress) up in a fun costume, decorate your home, and eat food shaped like spooky things such as ghosts and vampires.

A religious holiday

Halloween (is not) always scaring people and eating lots of sugar. It (came) from the Christian feast, All Hallows' Day. "Hallows" is an old word for "saints", so the day (is known) also as All Saints' Day.

The three-day festival is a time for people (to remember) loved ones who (died), as well as the saints of the Christian church.

The period (starting) with All Hallows' Eve, which become known as "Halloween", then (will come) All Saints', or All Hallows Day on November 1, and then All Soul's Day on November 2.

Trick or treat!

In some countries, kids go door to door (calling) "trick or treat!". This means either the home owner has to give them a treat, usually some sweets or they (will trick). Luckily, most people would rather give out theats than get tricked! It's not such good news for your teeth!
