In the play Antigone, Creon sentences Antigone to be buried alive as punishment for breaking his edict and burying Polyneices. Antigone has one final moment before Creon and the people to speak about her fate. She could repent and beg forgiveness. She could offer words of consolation and peace to those who are grieving her fate. Or she could use the opportunity to further justify her actions. Before we read her speech, you are going to place yourself in Antigone’s shoes and compose a speech of your own.
Compose a final speech for Antigone as she is about to be led away to her untimely death. What do you think she should say to Creon? What message do you think she should give to the people of Thebes?
Write your speech from Antigone’s perspective using first-person point of view.
