Read the following excerpt from Canto XXXIV of Dante's Inferno, in which Dante and Virgil encounter Luci, and then view the image by Gustave Doré that depicts this scene. The emperor of the kingdom of despair Rose up from mid-chest out of the sheer ice;
And I come closer to a giant's height ... ..
