Which statement best evaluates how well the narrative establishes a clear
focus?
I ran through the front door and dropped my backpack on the kitchen
table. "Mom, I'm home! I'm going to the tree house to read," I yelled
down the hall. I dashed out the door and through the backyard with the
long-awaited sequel to Mud Life in my hand. Three months ago, I had
put my name on the library waiting list to check out the book. Today, I
practically leapt for joy when the librarian pulled it out from under the
circulation desk. It was Ms. Underhill, the head librarian at my school,
who first told me about the Mud Life series of books. The stories are
set in South America, and Ms. Underhill lived there for a short time
when she was younger. I climbed up in the tree house to settle in for an
afternoon of reading.
