To complete the "Hitting the Road" assignment, you must finish step 4. Complete this in a text entry. Create your Rite of Passage with activities, rituals and challenges designed to make the transformation of consciousness required. Your Rite of Passage should contain the four elements listed below. ((Include an introductory paragraph or two explaining the purpose of your Rite of Passage and why the Rite is important to both the initiates undergoing the ritual and their community).

1. A separation or beginning ceremony that engages initiates emotionally and emphasizes the importance of this major step in their lives. The ceremony should include people who are significant in the initiates’ lives and community. Decide who will act as “shaman” or leader of the ritual and what will be said and done. You should also include at least one symbolic item and explain the item’s significance.
2. At least three challenges, tests or activities that will cause or stimulate the changes you listed in step three. The challenges should engage initiates emotionally, in their “gut,” in a way that will expand their consciousness and cause them to see themselves as members of the driving community. Each challenge, when completed, should conclude with the presentation of a symbolic item.
3. A final celebration when initiates assume their new role as drivers. Include important people from their lives and community, perhaps people who were involved in the challenges. (May be combined with 4 below.)
4. A ritualistic final step in which initiates (now drivers) symbolically receive their driver’s license. You might include a symbolic item (i. e., a ring, bracelet, necklace, watch or something for the car) that will help the initiate remember the challenges they faced and changes they made during the Rite of Passage.
