In this ways plants can restore some amount of water. It also helped fight against harmful UV rays and also from the intruding insects that eat their leaves. In other words, this waxy covering protect the plant from UV rays and insects.

Thus, the plants would be harmed by insects and UV radiation on  removing the outer waxy layer of the plants.
