The purpose of Coordination is to combine sentences in writing. It is used to combine ideas that are equal in value. These can be clauses, phrases or words.

Those ideas are joined by a coordinating conjunction, a conjunctive adverb  or punctuation. Some examples of coordinators are: "and, or, but". Transition words, such as "therefore" and "in fact", can also be used to coordinate sentences.
