Henry David Thoreau wrote his essay "Civil Disobedience" as a form of an argument that tells that humans/ citizens have the right to not allow governments to overrule their lives. Thoreau was a strict believer in his principles. He believed that a person could not exist without a particular set of beliefs, and he had to adhere to them strictly, as it formed a part of the person’s identity. Thoreau was a strong proponent of the Civil disobedience, as he believed that if the representatives of the government would fail to understand the needs of the people, and ways to end the incumbent inequality in society, the morally enlightened population was responsible to understand the needs of their own welfare, and thus push forward for the legislation of such issues. Thoreau cannot place his faith in the authority of the government institutions, as he finds it rife with corruption and injustice. Thus, it becomes the duty of responsible citizens to observe Civil disobedience, albeit with a cautionary note, that civil disobedience should be observed in such a manner that it can be distinguished from vandalism and political violence.
