In your opinion is john a moral and/ or ethical person ?

In my opinion, John Proctor is a moral person.

In the first section of The Crucible, we see that John is the ideal Puritan man. He has a large farm, a wife and children. He seems happy with his life. John is an upstanding citizen appreciated by the community.

However, when he commits adultery with Abigail, he (and us) are forced to reconsider whether he is indeed a good man. However, throughout the book, John is tortured by his guilt. The extent of his guilt show us that he is somewhat moral, as he repents from his sins. Moreover, he never stops fighting the false accusations, which shows that he values justice. Finally, he confesses to his sins, which means he is no longer a hypocrite.

Although John behaves badly at the beginning, he embarks on a long journey looking for redemption, and he achieves it at the end. This shows that John is indeed a moral man.
