The Brahmaputra river flows west and south from the himalaya through India into Bangladesh, where it joking with the Ganges. It is important for inland shipping and hydroelectric power. The Ganges flows east from the himalaya though the Ganges plain, which is Indias most agriculturally productive area. The Ganges has immense cultural and religious importance to India's people.
