The pattern of rhyme in the poem is ABAAB. The metric effect in the poem is Imab.

The pattern of rhyme is the sound that repeats at the end of every stanza. The pattern of rhyme can be ABAB, referring to 1 and 3 lines of the stanza rhyme, and 2 and 4 lines of the stanza rhyme with each other.

In the poem,  "The Lake of the Dismal Swamp", lines 1, 3, and 4 rhyme with each other, and lines 2 and 5 rhyme. Thus the pattern of rhyme is ABAAB.

The number of syllables and the emphasis on those syllables introduces the metric effect in the poem. The poem  "The Lake of the Dismal Swamp", has the first syllable unaccented and the second accented.

This type of stress is referred to as an Imab meter. Thus the poem has an Imab meter.

life will not be easy it will be filled with war, lack of resources, damaged planet, and lack of land to live on.
