She thinks that her mother and sister don't really understand or accept their heritage. But in reality, seh seems to be the one who is more confused about her history and heritage then her family. This shows her contempt fro her mother, for she had always detested her ways of life and maybe partly because she refused to give her the quilts she had wanted for herself.
