Step 1: Look at p. 12 in Unit one of our textbook, which is attached, and rank the vocabulary words for the poem we are going to read. If you have a textbook, do it in the textbook and take a picture of it to submit. if you don't have a textbook, just do it on a piece of paper and make sure to label each activity. There will be a couple that you will be doing with the poem.

Step 2: Scroll down to page 21 and just read the top of the page before you start reading the poem. While you are reading the poem, please make note of the Close Read activities in the right Margin of the poem. These will help you answer the questions on page 21, at the bottom of the page, when you are done reading the poem.

Step 3: The last assignment is you answering the questions on page 20 under"Analyze the Text" You will have to answer the questions on a piece of paper.

**Please make sure to answer everything in complete sentences!** You do this by starting your answer with part of the question. For example: What house did George live in last year? George lived in the house on 2nd and Main last year.

Read this excerpt from we’ve got a job: the 1963 children’s march. though connor was commissioner of public safety, blacks knew that it wasn't their health and safety he intended to protect. and he certainly didn't put out their fires. between the late 1940s and early 1960s, more than fifty black homes and churches in birmingham were bombed. one neighborhood was hit so often, it was called "dynamite hill." no one was ever prosecuted, even when the police could identify the bombers. what is the tone of the excerpt? inquisitive sentimental apologetic scornful
