Trash Management (1) Every day, people discard something or the other in garbage cans. (2) According to recent data, Americans throw trash that can fill 63,000 trucks every day. (3) How will humans be able to manage so much trash at this rate? (4) And, do people ever spare even a second from 86400 seconds of a day to think where all this garbage goes?
(5) Managing trash is assuming serious threats today, and the turnover of the garbage is estimated to increase three times by the end of the century.
(6) Trash is managed in different ways. (7) Some of it is buried, some of it is thrown into dumping grounds, while some of it is burned. (8) But all these methods create other issues. (9) Burying and dumping trash can only be done up to an extent after which the garbage starts piling and starts spreading diseases. (10) While burning trash may get rid of it instantly, the smoke that it creates, in turn, pollutes the air.
(11) It is a good idea to use and reuse things to reduce waste so that we do not face issues with trash management in the future. (12) For example, cookie jars and tins could be reused to store pulses, lentils, flour, or spices. (13) Most importantly, each one should develop the habit of donating books, clothes, and toys to those in need and not throw them in the trash.
(14) Everyone's primary aim should be to reduce waste, which in turn will lift the pressure of managing it.
