He dreams of exploring that talent, which is seen as something feminine that he shouldn't be involved in. Jess's family does not give emotional support to his dreams, besides being very poor and always concerned about the family's economic future. Jess feels very lonely and limited, but together with his friend, Leslie, he can explore who he is and find a place where he could forget all those worries. That place was Terabithia, a place that he and Leslie discovered and visited frequently.
