Recent years have seen a huge dip in the economy. The pinch has been
felt strongly in middle school sports. In many schools, team sports may be
cut and replaced by privately run leagues. This is a terrible shame. Let us
look at two perfect examples in New Mexico. A May 2, 2009, article from
The New Mexican newspaper tells of cuts that threaten sports in local
schools. The article, by James Barron, begins with this line: "It was the end
of the world as Diego Marquez and Christian Gonzales knew it."
