The reader is able to see that Turner is simply rebellious and will do anything to embarrass his father in front of his father’s congregation. The reader is able to see how Turner has been influenced by the beliefs of his father and the older people who live in Phippsburg. The reader is able to see that children do not have a clear or accurate view of the real world because they have not yet had many experiences.
