Since US soldiers occupied many Pacific islands, Spam was introduced there, too, and became a surprisingly popular delicacy. In particular, Hawaii has taken up Spam as a part of the local cuisine. Hawaiian McDonald's restaurants serve Spam, and now so do Hawaiian Burger Kings. In fact, some people refer to Spam as "the Hawaiian steak."
