What is the meaning of longed as it is used in Paragraph 2?

paragraph 2: “I’m trying, Mother. I can’t believe today is finally here. I’ve practiced and dreamed and longed for this for four years!” Keisha gazed out the window, barely seeing the telephone poles fly by. The past two hours in the car had been torture, and there was still another sixty miles before they would arrive at the auditorium. She was one of fifty middle school students chosen from around the state to play at the university recital. The recital itself was a final audition; if she did well she would be invited to attend summer music camp. Attending the camp was an almost guaranteed acceptance into the music program after high school.
