Rationale: A diary entry in Daisy Buchanan’s point of view to showcase the conflicts she faced For our IB Language and Literature English SL class, we have read through and explored various characters, key themes and symbols in The Great Gatsby. I have chosen to present my written task in a diary entry in Daisy’s point of view as I have always been interested in Daisy as a person and character. Throughout the novel, we, the readers, never truly knew what she wanted or knew what she was thinking. There was no clear signs of that as she was always in conflict with herself from the start of the book to the end. Every action she did seemed like it contradicted the previous one, similar to the narrator of the novel, Nick Carraway. There are numerous paths I could take with writing a diary entry from her point of view. The reason why I chose a diary entry was because this way, you can truly see her thoughts and feelings, the recount of events directly from her perspective. The intended purpose of my diary entry is to inform the audience, which are young, affluent Americans in the middle-class society, about the struggles and experiences that Daisy went through being the character she is. Being one of the main characters in the book, she caught the reader’s eye as a gold digger. However, I believe she was just a product of the corruption of materialism, especially in her parent’s part. Word count: 233
