“Reading for pleasure is a waste of time. People who spend hour upon hour reading don’t get to live in the real world. They don’t really learn anything that is useful about how to deal with everyday people and problems. Plus, teachers always make us read things that are boring.
Parents always talk about how if schools has uniforms, everything would be so much easier. You wouldn’t get caught up on looks and would learn the skills you need. I disagree with this. I think that school uniforms would put a restriction on our creativity. We dress the way we do for a certain reason. Clothes give us expression and the ability to use color and patterns. The first impression we get of people is usually clothes, facial expression and language. If we all wear the same thing we don’t get to really see what people are like on the side. Usually girly girls wear pink and frilly things. Skaters wear baggy pants and Goths usually wear black. Cognitive bias is a type of thinking where people's personal views of matters shape their thinking and beliefs. They are quick to draw inferences based on preconceived beliefs. They do not analyze all aspects of the matter but simply conclude on things based on what they initially thought. A type of cognitive bias that is evident in the text above is confirmation bias.

Confirmation bias is a conscious effort to search out that which we believe in and leave out what we do not believe in. In dismissing the beliefs of parents on parents, the writer simply expressed his preconceived notions on the subject and projected it as the best.

1. the details that would clarify the authors purpose for writing would be after the "haley collected used soccer jersey and sent them to guatemalan children." part, he would say, "and you can also donate today to save ". so far in the text, you can see no such thing. if, near the end the author persuades you to donate to guatemalans, then you know that the author's reason to write is to persuade you.

2. what details would make the text more engaging is to see the guatemalan children's reaction to getting free jerseys.

3. the details that convey the author's attitude would be an opinion by the author, for example, if he said, "haley was a very nice girl " or, you can find the attitude by finding parts of haley's personality that he highlights. you can strengthen your tones by using more descriptive words, and simplify long sentences as much as you can.
