Dear Editor: I am submitting this letter to your newspaper, The Plaidport Monitor, to voice my support for the new commuter train. The citizens of Plaidport have been struggling with the economy, and many have had to give up their means of transportation. Therefore, Plaidport needs a public train. My friends Bob Russell and Dave Terry are on the city council, and I have enjoyed talking with them about the train. They told me that they will try to put this issue to a vote at the next meeting. I have also spoken with most of my neighbors and most everybody I know in this city. I have lived in Plaidport all my life, and I know many people. Some will argue that the train will cost too much money to construct. This would be a terrible reason to not build the train. If everybody in town wants to build the train, then it is necessary for the city of Plaidport to build it. Please, citizens, join me in supporting the commuter train. Plaidport needs your voice. Sincerely, Ron Jackson Plaidport, TX Evaluate this passage overall: Is Ron's argument valid? a Yes because the evidence is present. b No because Plaidport does not need a new train. c Yes because the evidence is relevant and sufficient. d No because the evidence is superficial, subjective, and insufficient.

Will give if correct read the passage first of all, if someone says your dream is impossible, they’re wrong. you can’t prove that something is impossible-all you know is that [it] hasn’t been done yet. people said no one could scale mount everest, but in 1953, sir edmund hilary and tenzing norgay gazed down upon the world from its summit. people said that man could not fly, but in 1903, orville and wilbur wright made the first sustained powered flight in a heavier-than-air machine. people said, “okay, we admit that someone could climb mount everest, and we admit that man has learned to fly, but no one will ever, ever walk on the face of the moon.” if we can send three men a quarter of a million miles away and bring them home safely, is there any great task we cannot accomplish? which identifies the textual evidence that best supports the claim: the authors purpose is to persuade? a: the author shares historical information about the wright brothers. b: the author states that men have walked the moon. c: the author states that others who think your dreams are impossible are wrong. d: the author wants to know what tasks we cannot accomplish.

Find a newspaper or magazine (either print or digital form), and select one piece of media to evaluate. after reading/viewing the media, describe it, and explain what you believe the purpose and intended audience of the piece may have been. then, label the techniques (images, layout, video, sound, etc.) that were used, and how those techniques interacted to create either an effective or ineffective piece of media. your response should be at least 200 words.
