Revise this passage so that it uses a formal style, precise language, and domain- specific vocabulary. Use the following domain-specific vocabulary in your revision:

• Blockade: The shutting of a port to keep people or supplies from moving in or out
Import: To bring products and goods into a country
Export: To send products and goods to another country

Passage:

At the beginning of the Civil War, President Lincoln ordered the U. S. Navy to
close off the ports along almost 3,500 miles of Atlantic coastline. This was so
the Union could stop them from bringing products in and from sending their
own goods out of the country. Though many smaller Confederate ships were
able to get out of the ports, they only had a little bit of goods, and the South
needed much more to support their economy.
