Read the following passage: (1) Have you ever thought something confusing had “neither rhyme nor reason?” (2) What about having a night where you did not “sleep a wink?” (3) Have you ever seen something or someone you coveted and fell victim to the “green-eyed monster?” (4) If so, you have Shakespeare to thank. (5) Over the course of his writing career, William Shakespeare captured all levels of human life, from lowly servants with no hope of freedom to tyrannical kings with armies ready to die at a word. (6) Despite his influence on the English language and those cultures that speak it, Shakespeare’s work is often seen as difficult to approach for new readers. (7) Many students find his work unrelatable or, at the very least, outdated. (8) Still, classrooms across the planet carve out a spot for Shakespeare’s work. (9) Why is this, and should it continue? (10) The works of William Shakespeare should continue to be taught in schools because the works continue to be relevant, the works spill over into film, and the works are a part of our daily lives, whether we realize it or not.
