S document does King cites in his speech. His purpose was to end discrimination and for all men to be equal. The seminal document used in the “I have a Dream” speech was the emancipation proclamation (2) He states his purpose on line 12 while using 100 years later multiple times and he uses the emancipation proclamation in line 5. (3) In line 12 it says, “of segregation and the chains of discrimination” Him saying 100 years later also helps get his point across and that’s what African Americans were going through. (4) King’s purpose of this speech was to help stop racism and discrimination.

2.The extended metaphor he used was “we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check”. It means they were promised equal rights and the same freedoms but did not receive it. (2) in lines 18-22 it states, “architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence”. (3) They were promised equal rights but were not give it and they have waited 100 years for equal rights, and they want to get equal rights now. (4) They want equal rights right here and right now.

3. King refers where he is giving his speech, when he said, “hallowed spot”. He said this, because it was at the Lincoln Memorial and Lincoln ended slavery. (2) In lines 34-35 he said, “hallowed spot”, which was the Lincoln Memorial because that’s where the speech took place. (3) Lincoln ended slavery with the emancipation proclamation and his memorial was where King did his speech and King did this to remind everyone that we have equal rights. (4) The hallowed spot is the Lincoln Memorial and it had significant effect to King’s speech.

4. The word used multiple times in line 70-80 was “Satisfied” and was used 8 times. The word was used multiple times, because African Americans were not satisfied with their current situation and there was still injustice. (2) The word satisfied was used a lot with injustice of black Americans. (3) in lines 70-72 where it states, “We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality” (4) All African Americans were not satisfied with all the racism and brutality from the white people and were done with it.
