How do supporting details reinforce the central idea in this passage? The flowers of the lotus plant are important in many religions. The
plant grows from the bottom of muddy ponds, but the flowers
themselves are high in the air, above the water. So even though it grows
from mud, its leaves are untouched and beautiful. Because of this,
many religions use the lotus to symbolize a state of beauty and purity
that should be a goal for people.
