Read It! Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda have been selling gas-electric hybrid cars for over a decade. These cars
are "green"—they produce less pollution and are better for the environment. Now, Nissan, another Japanese car
manufacturer, has developed a rival. The Leading Environmentally friendly Affordable Family car (LEAP) made its
public debut in August 2009. It is a completely electric, zero-emissions vehicle. The LEAF costs as little as $29,000.
This is fairly cheap for an electric car, and government-sponsored rebates lowered the price even further. Nissan
hoped to tap the growing market of environmentally conscious consumers eager to avoid rising gas prices.
Do It!
Nissan tried to
A compete
B endure
C qualify
