"judgement" of anything is completely subjective. It's really ok if you don't like radiohead. Let's just get that out there... nobody is right or wrong for liking (or disliking) an artist. Your analogy is spot on... much like food, you don't need to know about music to decide whether you like it or not. For me, and seemingly many others based on many threads in this sub, it was about finding the right entry point. Personally, that was Kid A. Just listen to the song Kid A and ask yourself "what am I even hearing in this song? what are these layers? what is creating these sounds?". That does it for me. They're endlessly interesting. Also, the feels. Nothing wrong with cool mellow music to chill out with if that's what you get from it!

What makes them stand out as an important musical group IMHO is the length of their career (without any member changes nonetheless!), the incredibly devoted and ever-expanding fan base they've maintained through that career, and the constant evolution of their sound through each release. They take risks, which I find incredibly admirable in this age of predictable and largely regurgitated songs/bands, designed and crafted by major labels.
