Read the paragraph and answer the question. In the beginning he was Christopher Bellew. By the time he was
at college he had become Chris Bellew. Later, in the Bohemian
crowd of San Francisco, he was called Kit Bellew. And in the end
he was known by no other name than Smoke Bellew. And this
history of the evolution of his name is the history of his
evolution. Nor would it have happened had he not had a fond
mother and an iron uncle, and had he not received a letter
from Gillet Bellamy
"I have just seen a copy of the Billow," Gillet wrote from Paris.
"Of course O'Hara will succeed with it. But he's missing some
plays." (Here followed details in the improvement of the
budding society weekly.) "Go down and see him. Let him think
they're your own suggestions. Don't let him know they're from
me. If he does, he'll make me Paris correspondent, which I can't
afford, because I'm getting real money for my stuff from the big
magazines. Above all, don't forget to make him fire that dub
who's doing the musical and art criticism. Another thing, San
Francisco has always had a literature of her own. But she hasn't
any now..."

Which sentence in this excerpt from leo tolstoy’s the death of ivan ilyich suggests that ivan ilyich aspired to be part of the elite in society from a young age? a. ivan ilyich was  le phenix de la famille  as people said.  he was neither as cold and formal as his elder brother nor as wild as the younger, but was a happy mean between them—an intelligent polished, lively and agreeable man. b.  even when he was at the school of law he was just what he remained for the rest of his life:   a capable, cheerful, good-natured, and sociable man, though strict in the fulfillment of what he considered to be his duty:   and he considered his duty to be what was so considered by those in authority. c.neither as a boy nor as a man was he a toady, but from early youth was by nature attracted to people of high station as a fly is drawn to the light, assimilating their ways and views of life and establishing friendly relations with them. d.all the enthusiasms of childhood and youth passed without leaving much trace on him; he succumbed to sensuality, to vanity, and latterly among the highest classes to liberalism, but always within limits which his instinct unfailingly indicated to him as correct. e.at school he had done things which had formerly seemed to him very horrid and made him feel disgusted with himself when he did them;

Read the excerpt from "the storyteller." the smaller girl created a diversion by beginning to recite "on the road to mandalay.” she only knew the first line, but she put her limited knowledge to the fullest possible use. she repeated the line over and over again in a dreamy but resolute and very audible voice; it seemed to the bachelor as though some one had had a bet with her that she could not repeat the line aloud two thousand times without stopping. whoever it was who had made the wager was likely to lose his bet. "come over here and listen to a story,” said the aunt, when the bachelor had looked twice at her and once at the communication cord. the children moved listlessly towards the aunt’s end of the carriage. evidently her reputation as a storyteller did not rank high in their estimation. in a low, confidential voice, interrupted at frequent intervals by loud, petulant questionings from her listeners, she began an unenterprising and deplorably uninteresting story about a little girl who was good, and made friends with every one on account of her goodness, and was finally saved from a mad bull by a number of rescuers who admired her moral character. which instances of situational irony occur in the passage? select two options. a.) “whoever it was who had made the wager was likely to lose his bet.” b.) “‘come over here and listen to a story,’ said the aunt, when the bachelor had looked twice at her and once at the communication cord.” -- c.) “the children moved listlessly towards the aunt’s end of the carriage.” d.) “evidently her reputation as a story-teller did not rank high in their estimation.” -- e.) “in a low, confidential voice, interrupted at frequent intervals by loud, petulant questionings from her listeners, she began an unenterprising and deplorably uninteresting story about a little girl who was good.”
