Talk to people you trust and if talking to a counselor make sure they keep what they say, if they say they wont tell your parents of anyone they know, make sure you know they won't. Not all counselors keep their word.

One situation that i was worried about is when I was on a bus, there was this guy who had a gun and was going to shoot somebody but missed. I talked to my mom about it because I was really scared and was only in the 5th grade so I didn't know how to react to a situation like that.  My mom made me feel more confident and secure by checking in on me and letting me sleep in her bedroom so I don't have to worry about someone trying to kill me.  Everyone knew about this situation and when we went back to school everyone was scared but the teachers comforted us by letting us play some games and having parties to release the worrisome and stress. One thing that also made me feel more confident was actually talking about it and facing what happen.
