SOCIAL ISSUES RESEARCH Annotated Bibliography due on Turnitin. com and Schoology due on January 19, 2021
Presentation Project due on January 29, 2021

Task: You will research a social issue from the list provided. During your research, you will need to consider both sides of the issue – why do some agree with your opinion and why do some disagree with your opinion? You will need to find a total of three sources on your given topic. Two sources will align with your opinion on the topic and one will go against your opinion. You will also be creating a project to present your research to the class.

Annotated Bibliography (Summative Assessment):
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations for the sources given (may include books, articles, and documents; no videos). Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.

An annotation should give enough information to make a reader decide whether to read the complete work. In other words, if the reader were exploring the same topic as you, is this material useful and if so, why?

For each of the three sources you will need to:
Provide the MLA citation for the source.
Paragraph 1: Summarize the main ideas of the source. Be sure to include key information found in the source.
Paragraph 2: Explain the relevance of the source.
Evaluate the authority or background of the author in order to qualify the validity of the source.
Explain how this source will aid in discussing the social issue.
Describe the author’s main arguments and conclusions without evaluating what the author concludes.

Helpful Hints for Annotated Bibliography:

1. Do not make personal references (I, me, my, you) in your paragraphs.

2. Title your page as Annotated Bibliography, centered on the page.

3. Include your social issue under the title of the page.

4. Use MLA heading (only on the first page), Times New Roman, 12 point font, 1 inch margins.

5. Alphabetize all sources by the first letter of the MLA citation entry.

6. Use hanging indents for all lines after the first line of each entry.

7. Indent the first line of each paragraph (double Tab key).

8. Include the MLA citation before paragraph 1.

9. Double space everything. Do not add any extra lines anywhere.

10. Drop down to the next line after the citation to begin the paragraphs.

11. Paragraphs are more than 2-3 sentences. Be sure to thoroughly cover the required topic and information.
