Michael walked eagerly out onto the dock and looked out over the water. He hoped the wind would settle down soon. The storm the night before had not done much damage, but the water was still choppy. None of that mattered to Michael though. He was glad to be right where he stood and was excited that soon he would be out on the water. Michael knew every inch of the shoreline. This was the lake where his father first took him fishing when he was just a little boy and where he had spent all his summers. The tree branches along the shore seemed to wave to him like old friends. Michael knew the spot where he wanted to fish and pictured himself sitting there in the quiet sunlight. He could spend all day here on Lake Manitou and be very happy.
His fishing pole and bait were all ready to go. Michael put on his life jacket, threw his lunch sack in the boat, and put on the cap his dad had given him. Now, all he had to do was wait. His dad was parking the truck and would be there any minute.
