The drafting stage comes after these two stages:

a) Prewriting stage: At this stage, the writer clarifies her thoughts about the topic before finally deciding on the approach to adopt for the writing. Much time is always spent at this stage because it is the moment of focus and decision.

b) Research stage: The research stage closely follows the prewriting stage. At this information-gathering stage, relevant information gathered from different sources on the chosen topic is sorted, summarized, and analyzed to remove irrelevant and unnecessary information which do not pertain to the chosen topic.
