Why did emerson object to the court issuing a writ of habeas corpus to john brown? it would keep john brown in jail indefinitely without being charged with a crime. john brown would be released immediately, and emerson wanted him to remain in prison. it was a legislative demand for all abolitionists to face execution. john brown had to rely on an incompetent court rather than his own ability with from supporters.
