In “Maroo of the Winter Caves” many examples of similes and metaphors can be found. One example would be: “as fast as a cheetah”. The comparison made does not mean that the person is a cheetah but has the speed of one. One example of a metaphor is “Otak was a dark, moving blur” which means that Maroo’s brother, Otak, knows how to be unnoticed. It does not literary mean that her brother was a moving blur.
