American culture teaches drivers to pass other cars on the right-hand side. Drivers are allowed to make right-hand turns on a red light. You will find that most people with driving experience automatically step to the right when their paths are obstructed by another person. Your task is to take a stroll down a sidewalk, on the playground, in a mall, or someplace where you will encounter a moderate amount of people. On ten different occasions, you will begin casually walking into the path of a nearby person. Just walk directly toward the person. You don't have to make eye contact or charge down on them like a football player. You are simply going for a stroll and casually happen to be walking into their approaching path. Take note to which direction the person moves to get out of your way. Did the person step to his or her right? Keep in mind, if you are approaching someone who does not step out of the way, DO NOT purposely walk into that person. Print out the data collection sheet and keep a pencil handy but out of sight. Each time you cause someone to step aside, take a minute to record the unconsciously conformed behavior. Circle either "left" or "right" or "didn't move" next to each trial. Write a few paragraphs describing your walking experience. Provide details for each of your ten trials. Describe whether or not you experienced people unconsciously conforming to the American standard of moving to the right. If the person didn't conform, why? (Was the person too young to understand the behavior, or perhaps was not American?) What is your opinion of this project
