Exempt employees are those who get a salary and benefits. Exempt employees can now take eight hours of personal time off each month. Personal time off is time employees can take for any reason. To use personal time off, employees must let supervisors know at least one week before the personal day. This lets supervisors make sure that the employees’ shifts are covered. Under this new policy, exempt employees will also receive at least 24 hours of sick time each year. They may receive more time depending on state or local rules. This new policy is just for employees in the United States. You are a supervisor at Utley Hardware. It is a Thursday, and an employee lets you know he is using personal time to take off the following Wednesday. According to the Personal Time Off Policy, you need to advise the employee that he: must provide a valid reason for using the personal time off. must ensure his shift is covered before requesting time off. should consult the state and local rules regarding time off. will not be granted the time off because he must request this at least 24 hours in advance. will not be granted the time off because he must request this at least a week in advance.
