While one tends to focus on dark and brooding subjects, giving picturesque scenery, fear, mystery and dread, all rather dark things, the other, transcendentalism, is the belief that if everyone were to be completely self-reliant, the world would be much better off because it is believed that that is when they are at their best. However, there are a few similarities between the two. For one thing, they both typically deal with adventure, going into the unknown. They also value the same things, emotion, individualism, and free will. So, despite having mostly very different ideas, in some ways, they can be very great together.
