Write a literary analysis essay of at least five paragraphs in response to one of the essay options provided-  Respond to ONLY 1 essay Option below in at least 5 fully developed paragraphs (an introductory paragraph, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph).  Each body paragraph should have a topic sentence introducing the main idea of the paragraph, and a concluding sentence wrapping up your main idea.
 Each body paragraph should use at least 2 quotes/examples from the text to substantiate your arguments. Cite all direct quotes with the (Author and Page #).

OPTION 1: Literary Elements Essay: Write a close analysis of one of the following short stories:
• Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Birthmark”

Discuss how three different literary elements from the following list are used to enhance the story: * setting, conflict, character, symbolism, point of view, theme, tone, figurative language, foreshadowing, imagery, irony, plot. Give at least two examples from the text of each of the 3 literary elements you plan to discuss.
