Eteocles refused giving up power which led to a battle between him and Polyneices which resulted in the death of the brothers. Thus led to their uncle named Creon to be in line for the throne.

Creon decreed that Polyneices shouldn't be buried as hid body should be left to rot in the street because he was a traitor and that anyone who plans to give him a proper burial will punished by death.
