What does “revenge” seem to mean to Hamlet? Is it simply killing Claudius or something else?
· Imagine that instead of speaking his soliloquy, Hamlet had simply entered the stage and stood over Claudius in silence. What would that be like for the audience? What might they assume is happening with Hamlet?
· What do you know about Hamlet’s mindset now that you would not if you had not read this soliloquy?
3. Consider all that you have learned about both Claudius and Hamlet, and answer the following questions:
· How does Claudius feel about Hamlet?
· How does Hamlet feel about Claudius?
· Do you think Hamlet’s feelings about Claudius would change if he knew Claudius felt guilty?
· Think back to when you first read this scene and pretend you don’t know what is coming next. You know that soon Hamlet will be going to see his mother Gertrude. Given what happened in this scene, do you think Gertrude might be in danger from her son? Why or why not?
