Convection is a transfer of thermal energy through fluids such as water and air, it functions because of a convection current. An example of this could be a pot of boiling water. Conduction is transfer of thermal energy through objects. There are some things that conduct the energy faster, and others slower(insulators). An example of this could be cookies baking in an oven.
